What is a Postpartum Doula?

Originally derived from the modern Greek word δούλα which means “servant-woman”, in today’s culture it is taken to mean “Mothering the Mother”.

In Western society where we are often isolated from family support, Postpartum Doulas fill that space to provide new Mothers information, along with practical, physical, and emotional support as she extends her roots, grounding herself in her new role as a Mother.

How can I nurture you?

I take on a limited number of clients at any one time to make sure I can give you the full care and attention you deserve.

By offering Postpartum Support to you and your family, my goal is to reduce any stress, allowing you to put your focus on your body and your baby.

 

No two families or even days will look the same. One day you might need a cuppa and a chat, the next it could be getting on top of those household chores that seem to pile up quicker than the dirty burp rags.

Whatever you need to help you feel confident in yourself as a Mother, connect to your baby and relish in those small joys that can often be missed in a busy world.

Emotional Support

Sometimes you just need someone who can listen… Who understands your situation and to help you mentally and emotionally process your experiences through this huge life event.
Motherhood is hard and it’s OK to feel overwhelmed and overlooked. It’s my job to provide care and support and to boost your confidence in your abilities as a Mother.

Physical Support

Your body has just been through an incredible journey, growing and then birthing a human! I just want to say it – Well done Mama! But the journey isn’t over yet; now you need to heal, replenish and rest while sustaining life.

She has a tough gig, that body of yours, but with the right care and even a smidge of the attention that you give your adorable little bundle of joy, we can get you feeling refreshed and renewed.

Practical Support

The pressure to be everything to everyone in today’s society can make a new Mother feel overwhelmed. I can fold a load of washing, run a vacuum, keep siblings out of your hair so you can have a nap or just hold your baby while you get a shower or some shut-eye.

I can also help with a nappy wash routine if you want to use cloth but are daunted by the thought in the first few weeks with a newborn.

The process of pottying a newborn is foreign to our modern Western society. However, a little extra work early on can save an extraordinary number of nappy changes later.

Nourishing Meals

Pregnancy, birth and the early days of child-rearing can take a toll on your whole body including your digestive system.

Let me prepare warm, easy to eat one-handed foods to have on hand when hunger strikes that will heal you from the inside.

Beyond 6 weeks but still need some help? 

Lucky for you, I don’t believe the postpartum period ends once you reach 6 weeks or 3 months. The first year is a pivotal point in your relationship with your baby and that means you, Mama, should feel rested, loved and nurtured, so you can give your best self to your baby.
