What is HypnoBirthing?

HypnoBirthing® is an evidence based childbirth education program started in 1989 by Marie Mongan, that teaches you and your birth partner everything you need to know to approach pregnancy, birth and parenting with confidence.

A significant amount of the pain and discomfort experienced during child birth can be attributed to fear of the delivery process. This fear manifests in stress and tension, which impedes the natural opening and release of the birthing body. HypnoBirthing allows you and your birth partner to overcome this fear and put into practice physical and mental calming techniques that allow your body to relax so it can carry out its natural function without restriction.

Course structure

Group Classes are run periodically throughout the year with only 2-3 expecting mothers and their birth partner/s to ensure you get plenty of time for individual questions and care. The course is run over 5 sessions on consecutive Saturdays from 1pm-4pm at The Wellness Centre in Kenmore.

Private Classes are available on request should you want or need a tailored package targeted to your individual situation or schedule. This is best for those who are having caesarean sections or where a regular scheduled class doesn’t fit in with your busy life.

Private classes can be done in your own home or at The Wellness Centre in Kenmore.

You can do HypnoBirthing classes anytime, although I usually recommend from 25 weeks gestation to ensure adequate time to practice the scripts and breathing techniques ensuring you feel calm and confident come the first sign of labour.

It is ideal that you have your birthing partner, be that the father or other support person, attend the classes since they form a fundamental part of the HyponoBirthing approach. Should the birth partner be unavailable for one or two of the classes, we can arrange a make-up lesson during the week or you can book private classes to work around a busy schedule.

In HypnoBirthing® the birth partner plays an integral role in the pregnancy and birth. Practicing the relaxation scripts together during the pregnancy is a great way for the Father to bond with the baby and for couples to build on their intimate connection.

During labour, the birth partner is able to use techniques practiced to bring the birthing mother back to a state of calm. They are the rock of support that is often overlooked.

HypnoBirthing® techniques benefits people not only in managing (if not enjoying!) labour, but also in so many other aspects of life. Even Fathers have commented how much doing the course has helped them remain calm and focused in everything from bad traffic to stressful work meetings.

Even if you are induced or have a planned C-Section, the benefits of HypnoBirthing will help to ensure your baby will arrive Earthside in a calm manner. Your calm, confident demeanour as parents manifests in a calmer, quieter and happier baby.
